What a blast from the past. The teen hearthrob Cassidy brothers from decades ago return to the tube tonight in ABC Family’s latest original sitcom Ruby & The Rockits.Starting tonight, you can get your dose of former male rock stars from ABC Family's new musical comedy, Ruby & the Rockits, starring brothers David and Patrick Cassidy.
Patrick is a former 1980s pop star living quietly with his wife Audie (Katie Amanda Keane) and two sons Jordan (Austin Butler) and Ben (Kurt Doss). That is until his brother David, a former fellow Rockits band member, shows up out of the blue with his newly found teenage daughter Ruby. Since David refuses to give up his past glory days, he’s determined to convince Patrick to put their past behind him in order to help raise Ruby while he continues to perform.
Like most of ABC Family's audience, 17-year-old Austin didn't really know who the Cassidys were when he auditioned. His mom, on the other hand, freaked out.
Austin describes David as the "funny, crazy one," and Patrick as "a really nice guy" and says they essentially play themselves on the show. "What I'm thinking will happen is the moms will see the previews and will appreciate it. The kids won't know who the Cassidys are, but they will know Alexa from Spy Kids and think the music looks cool," he adds.
