In a business known for nomads, KXAS/Channel 5 reporter Brett Johnson did his best to stay put.
Brett Johnson death takes the world of Dallas TV by surprise; he died today at 48 after complications with pancreatitis at Fort Worth hospital. Brett was a veteran reporter for NBC 5 where he worked since 1996.
Friends and colleagues recalled Mr. Johnson’s love of music and of Texas, and of Fort Worth in particular.
Brett was a big fan of the Texas culture and it was always said that “he was more comfortable wearing a cowboy hat than wearing a suit”. He became famous presenting feature sotries, and he really seemed to excel in features related to music
Mr. Johnson’s love of music was such that NBC 5 co-workers said he’d often come into the station with a guitar or even a ukulele and sing songs. KXAS anchor Mike Snyder said that Mr. Johnson introduced him to Texas artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Pat Green, and that he regretted declining Mr. Johnson’s invitation to accompany him to Austin’s South by Southwest Music Festival. Mr. Johnson was also a Beatles fan. He twice visited the Fab Four’s hometown of Liverpool, England, and colleagues say he was a Beatles trivia expert.
Our thoughts go to Brett Johnson’s family.
